Homeowners or construction experts who have had a fair share of dealing with bamboo floors would certainly agree that the first factor in governing their choice is durability. Whether climatic disruptions or severe stress, bamboo plants are known for standing erect in the toughest of situations and that naturally reflects when the flooring is made of the same. This however does not imply that the floors can be left exactly how they have been installed, for example- the click-lock bamboo floors are quite easy to put on, but requires proper maintenance. In fact, this applies for all the three variants- solid, engineered and strand-woven.
When compared to its counterparts like wood, the click lock bamboo types require less maintenance. But the question is how should you actually care? To retain the exceptional visual appearance, you can certainly invest in worthy cleaning products, but there is more to it. Here’s how:
Dust and dirt to be removed
You can use a broom made of fine fiber or even a dust mop to take off the loose dirt from the floor. In order to keep the floor free off dust, it is important you ensure it is dry at all rimes. Traffic on continued basis on dirty floors is akin to grit on sandpapers, which puts scratches on the finish of the floor.
The floor must be mopped
Make a mixture of vinegar and water in the ratio of 1:4, which will be a cleaning agent for the floor. There is no problem if you choose to use hardwood floor cleaner as long as you know the art of mopping properly. The moment your click-lock bamboo floor gets wet, clean it using a towel.
Keeping a dry cloth handy at all times
You cannot guarantee when there will be spills on the floor, so always keep a spray bottle filled with vinegar solution and wipe it up completely. At the most, you can dampen the cloth to a certain extent and then use it. But keep the click-lock area dry immediately.
Steaks must be polished off
If you keep a towel handy for your click-lock bamboo floor, the latter stays polished and also helps you detect ant mark left after using the damp mop or cloth. Avoid the use of oil-based cleaner as those can impart a cloudy and streaked appearance.
Floor should not be scratched
To ensure longevity of your floors, do not pull anything on the floors or better still, keep felt or coasters under the furniture so that the pieces will not mar the material when made to shift. If you have pets at your home, keep their nails trimmed. Also, say no to vacuums with beater bar for cleaning your precious click-lock bamboo floor.
Being wary about shoes worn
There requires no second mention that shoe marks can leave scuffs or dirt on your bamboo floors, especially the heeled ones. The best thing would be to keep runners or rags in the high-traffic zones to lend ample protection to the floor so as to prevent build up of dirt, scratches or scuff marks. You can also keep the mats or rugs on every doorway so as to prevent dirt from entering the room. But make sure that the rugs are cleaned or shaken out on a regular basis.
Stains removal should be the first priority
To prevent any problem, get hold of a slightly damp cloth and only the appropriate cleaning solution on the floor. If you scrub or rub the floor aggressively, the finish of the click-lock material can be harmed. Stains are best to be buffed out and the finish can be reapplied.
Steps for discoloration of the bamboo floor
Bamboo floors are hardy no doubt, but sensitive too. You can hang the curtains or blinds over windows so as to keep away the sun rays, which when exposed for a prolonged period can fade the click-lock material. Window tint can also be applied to the windows for limiting the sun rays and protecting the floor in the best way possible.
Ensuring luster of the floor
And the way to doing that would be to uses a buff sander. But stay away from waxing your click-lock bamboo floor.
You can also get in touch with your manufacturer to know more about care, refinishing and overall maintenance of the flooring.
