What is the grade of bamboo?
If we are talking about the bamboo grading system, there is no such recognized system exist. Everyone has their own, some check through their experience and some through references. Most of the manufacturers grade bamboo into two categories A & B grade. The dissimilarity between their quality, type and colour makes the difference in their price. Also, durability is another factor in which manufacturers and buyers recognize their best type of bamboo flooring.
Grade A type of bamboo has no fungus or mould, is steady in colour, and is fully matured at harvesting. Grade B type of bamboo is usually having fungus, may not be steady in colour, and is harvested before maturation. As per the description, grade B bamboo might be weaker as compared to the grade A and need replacement or to repair in the future, even though you are taking care of them at their best. You will get grade A bamboo at a higher cost whereas grade B has a relatively low cost.
What type of finishing product and how many coats are used on the bamboo floor?
If you choose quality products and authorized brands for finishing the bamboo floor, this might take six to seven coats that include one more extra coat of aluminium oxide which is considered as the most durable type of coating in the market. Whereas, cheaper brands make it finish in just three coats that have no guarantee for future quality. If you are investing money, make sure you are investing in something good. How much colour variation exists in the product?
The greater the quality, the lesser or even zero colour variation. Whereas, the cheaper product has more than two colour variation and might get dull after some time. Is the bamboo flooring manufactured in a certified factory?
Check this before buying. If the bamboo flooring factory is certified by ISO 9002, the material would likely be made of grade A type of bamboo which is a properly harvested bamboo with no mould or fungus on it. If not, then bamboo would be grade B type or even less than that. It is better to check the certification of the company and then select the company for bamboo flooring.
