Stranded woven flooring is a new discovery into the world of the flooring and it is quite environment friendly material offering high quality. Stranded woven bamboo is a wood manufacturing process that is based on principles of processing, reorganization with a bamboo as raw material and a new bamboo floor board. The stranded woven flooring is composed of a bamboo beams which is further cracked and cross linked into cross linked long fiber and then it is dried, glued and pressed to get one log of strong woven stranded plank.

There are 2 different methods of strand woven- Hot press and Cold press. However, the preparation of pressing is same. Only drying and pressing processes differ. Here is a brief about the hot press and cold press along with their advantages and shortcomings.

The cold press requires a dip in glue once the moisture content of the bamboo strip is lowered down and then it is dried loading the bamboo strip in to the desired mold shape, pressing into the log and locking at room temperature for heat cure process. 

After this, the mold is broken and the board is balanced. Cold press, on the other hand, requires little investment in the form of equipment, gives higher productivity and efficient, good resistance to deformation and is available in a wide range. 

Cold Press

Advantages:

The cold press has a long cure time, simple process cutting, less color variations among others. Workers are labor intensive, but has a capability lesser than the hot press variant. 

Under the cold press, the heat curing takes place once the bamboo strips are loaded into the mold so that the mold gets heated which further results in slight expansion. This results in log edges not having uniform density in the middle. The edges get paralyzed causing uneven density of the board. It means the resultant floor surface will have the problem of cracks, deformities and ripples after coating. 

Hot Press

Hot Press in stranded woven flooring overcomes some of the deficiencies found in cold press. The press processing is completed under thousands of tons of pressure and there are no ripples or paralyzed edges left. 

Hot press woven strands have higher density and thus, difficult to cut. The material cost is also relatively higher. Since the heat curing time is short, the woven strands have larger color variations as compared to cold press. Hot press requires large equipment investment, single color- carbonized form, lower product efficiency and is labor intensive. However, the product toughness is commendable. 

Stranded woven flooring also has good sound insulation properties, are stable and durable but utilize higher amount of bamboo.

Stranded woven flooring is like using renewable resources: Bamboo is a raw material, and is a perfect alternative to the hardwood flooring. The utilization of bamboo is quite high. As high as 90% of bamboo is used which is twice the traditional raw material utilization. Stranded woven bamboo flooring is not just sustainable but also helps in protecting the environment.
