Bamboo constructions are not widely used in India. On the other hand, we use a lot of bamboo for our interior, in particular for the floor. Because in addition to its lovely aesthetic appearance, the bamboo flooring is very easy to maintain. It is virtually insensitive to moisture and temperature variations, making it a suitable material for bathrooms or heating/cooling floors for a hundred years. It is, therefore, very durable, and a sanding stroke will give it all its brilliance, in case of impact.
For its manufacture, bamboo flooring may be either solid or laminated. The solid parquet will consist of 100% bamboo stalks while the laminate is composed of a layer of 2.5mm thick on a support of compressed wood fibers or crossed layers of wood.
The solid bamboo flooring is more expensive but more resistant, and you can choose the orientation of the fibers:
? Horizontal bamboo parquet with several layers (usually alternating three layers). It is the oldest technique, and it reveals the nodes in the stems.
? Vertical bamboo parquet with a single layer of stems leaving the finest ribs apparent.
? The densified or compressed bamboo flooring alternates the direction of the stems and allows a smoother appearance of the floor.
? Regarding its implementation, it is always floating parquet to be pasted or to be clipped. Its woody structure which offers its incredible resistance, also prevents the nailing, at the risk of hurting itself.
? Bamboo flooring is highly resistant ecological flooring. Thanks to its properties and its resistance to moisture, this material is an interesting choice for the floor covering of a bathroom.
Virtues of bamboo flooring as compared to hardwood ones:
Compared to hardwood floors, bamboo floors have many virtues.
The solid bamboo flooring have greater hardness, making it more durable than hardwood flooring.
The third, bamboo floors can be installed in very short time being this very conveniently, (as it came ready and finished there is no need to polish, sanding and give additional finishes like woods, which take up a lot of time to months for your Installation). Apart from the above, bamboo floors have better grain and is more elegant and graceful than hardwood flooring.
What kind of finish does bamboo flooring use and what are its strengths?
Bamboo floors are finished with seven layers of 100% solid cured, UV urethane, which makes floors abrasion resistant, chemical, and staining, fire, bleeding and oiled. Also, bamboo floors with these types of individual finishes have another great virtue in electrostatic prevention.
Why do bamboo floors become more and more familiar?
Bamboo floors are made from renewable and recyclable natural resources. Buildings, barns, boats and other structures made of bamboo often find a second life on bamboo floors, decorative panels for walls, openings, and ceilings, plus bamboo floors are an excellent choice for a healthy home.
Solid bamboo flooring, when compared to hardwood, is harder and requires less sanding and finishing, making it an excellent choice for high residential and commercial traffic applications. Bamboo has a long straight fiber composition, providing exceptional resistance to weight ratio and dimensional stability.
Bamboo has only straight grain and is not subject to extraction, leaving chips and problems common to cutting and often irregular grain alignment of many forests. The nodes of growth, a light color and straight grain of bamboo give its exotic aspect.
Bamboo, suitable for wet locations
Opinions are still divided on the possibility of using bamboo as a floor covering for the bathroom.
Nevertheless, the parquet from this plant which regenerates easily is ideally suited to the ambient humidity of a bathroom. The bamboo also has a low index of contraction and heat expansion. This reduced sensitivity to temperature changes makes it compatible with underfloor heating. Used as a floor covering, it can easily withstand the various attacks of insects, trampling, and abrasion.
Bathroom, what kind of bamboo flooring choose?
There are several types of bamboo flooring. Floating and laminated flooring and solid bamboo flooring. The first category is not recommended for floor covering of a bathroom. It resists wear and tear over time and can swell and deform. However, the risks for such a situation are zero for solid bamboo flooring. Their density and stability distinguish the latter compared to floating floors.
Bamboo flooring, precautions to be taken
To prevent the floor from moving over time, it is essential to perform the installation correctly. The battens must be installed using the glued laying technique, and a silicone bead must be applied on the periphery. Even if the bamboo can withstand moisture, it is recommended not to leave the carpet soaked on the parquet floor to avoid damaging it, as constant moisture considerably reduces the lifetime of this type of floor. Also, make sure that the bathroom is well ventilated before considering the installation of a bamboo floor.
